Front Range Frenzy Home : Sugar Cookies Crisp Sugar CookiesMy sister and I used to make colored sugar cookies to give as gifts to our friends and family. I would cut the cookies in all different creative shapes. When we were not giving the cookies as gifts or inhaling them ourselves, we would sometimes sell them for 25 cents a dozen. My mother used to also treat us kids with a recipe for sugar cookies that she had made as a child with my grandmother. To this day, when I smell sugar cookies baking, I think about my mother's cookies using my grandmother's recipe, or the cookies that my sister and I would make for our friends and family. Asking a child to help with a baking project is great way to spend some quality family time together and to create some life long memories. It is hard to find a youngster who is not eager to help in the kitchen. A good place to start is creating holiday sugar cookies together, such as Valentines, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or whenever. 1 1/2 cups butter, softened Prep: 30 minutes Chill: 4 hours Bake: 10 minutes
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of the dough at a time until 1/8 inch thick. Using a 3-inch cookie cutter, cut dough into desired shapes. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle with desired decorations. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool. Makes 60 cookies. Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months. |
